Farmers yesterday raised concerns about salt water intrusion into the Mahaicony River.

With the long dry spell this has increasingly become a problem.

The farmers raised the problem with Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha and a team from the Ministry.

A release from the Ministry said that  Mustapha immediately put mechanisms in place by examining every option to ensure farmers have access to fresh water to support their rice cultivation.

The Guyana Rice Development Board was tasked to do salinity test 4 times daily in an effort to monitor the salt levels in the river.
