Two police ranks, who on Sunday were responding to a report of an alleged wounding in Regional Division #7, discovered one 12- gauge shotgun along with eight matching cartridges in a salt bag.
A police statement said that about 13:45 on the said day, the two ranks observed a man walking on the Morowah trail with a white ‘salt bag’ in his hands and on seeing the ranks, the man ran into some nearby bushes. The ranks gave chase but the man dropped the bag and made good his escape. Upon inspecting the bag, the ranks found the 12-gauge shotgun along with the eight 12-gauge cartridges with both its serial number and manufacturer’s name filed off. The ranks combed the area for the suspect but their efforts were futile. The firearm along with the ammunition were lodged at the police station.
