The Jits & Neelam-sponsored West Demerara Cricket Association Senior 40-Over competition continued during the last week with third-round action and saw All-Youths and Meten Meer Zorg Defenders among the winners.

At the Zeelugt ground, the All-Youths club got the better of their hosts with a five-wicket win. The hosts took the first strike and compiled 201 all-outs, with Khamdaiya Ramkarran leading the way with 68 not-outs, inclusive of six maximums and six boundaries.

He was supported by Suresh Ramdeen and Tameshwar Dass, who scored 25 each. Greg Singh was the destroyer in chief for the All-Youths bowling line-up with 4/23, while Jermaine Ramroop had 2/40.

Khamdaiya Ramkarran made 68 for Zeelugt

In response, All-Youths chased down the target in 27.5 overs with five wickets to spare. Naresh Persaud led the charge with an unbeaten 50 (4sx4, 6sx4). The latter received valuable support, with Maniram Singh recording 42, while Tameshwar Dass was the pick of the Zeelugt bowlers with figures of 3/35.

Over at the West Meten Meer Zorg Community Centre Ground, the hosts got the better of Leonora Cricket Club. After inserting Leonora to bat, the Defenders’ bowlers ran riot, dismissing the visitors for just 103. Off-spinner Ganguly Muneshwar was responsible for the collapse with 5/20. In response, the Defenders chased down the 103 in just 1 over, with Ryan Persaud top scoring with 58 not out.

Meanwhile, Goed Fortuin benefited from a walkover as Zeeburg Cricket Club failed to show up at the Canal #2 Sports Club Ground.

Also, the Windsor Forest Vipers beat neighbouring New Windsor by 40 runs.

The Vipers, who batted first, scored 223/9 in their allotted 40 overs. Abrahim Wazidali made 65 runs with three sixes and six fours, while Silvestre Hiralall (32 not out) and Faaood Bacchus (22) made contributions. Bowling for New Windsor, D. Persaud snared 3/44, Mahendra Jailall 2/25, and R. Henry had 2/30.

Needing 224 for victory, New Windsor, who were a player short, found themselves bowled out for 183. The bright light in their unsuccessful chase was S. Thakur, who made 52 (4sx5), Dindyal Guyadeen (3/30), and Mohamed Wazidali (3/37) led the bowling for the victors.
