Guyana departs local shores today to compete in Surinamese Basketball Tournament

The Guyanese senior men’s basketball team will depart local shores today to compete in an international goodwill tournament in Paramaribo, Suriname.

The team consists of 12 players and four technical officials. The playing roster features Shelroy Thomas, Harold Adams, Orlan Glasgow, Dominic Vincente, Nikkoloi Smith, Travis Belgrave, Stanton Rose Jr., Shane Webster, O’Quacey Short, Zion Grey, Domair Gladstone, and Yannick Tappin.

On the other hand, the coaching staff comprises Adrian Hooper and Marlon Rodrigues, while the management team consists of Jermaine Slater and Warren Wilson.

Guyana will open their campaign against the Surinamese All-Stars tomorrow at the Ismay van Wilgen Sporthal. If successful, they will play the winner of the French Guiana and Koi Carper encounter on Sunday at the same venue. By the same token, if unsuccessful, they will play the loser of the aforesaid contest.

Guyana defeated Suriname 77-62 in a senior men’s international basketball friendly on Saturday, December 16th, at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, which initiated the team’s participation in the impending tournament.
