As the Guyana Harpy Eagles, defending champions of the CWI Regional 4-Day tournament, gear up to defend their title, they have called up a number of young players for practice matches.

Among those players is the prodigious 14-year-old left-handed batsman Adrian Hetmyer, nephew of Guyana and West Indies player Shimron Hetmyer.

The youngster’s three most recent innings for his club, Rose Hall Canje Arborsmart, have been a record 277, 168, and 260.

The practice matches, the first of which will be played on Tuesday (January 9) at the iconic GCC ground at Bourda, will see Antony Adams and young opening batsman Matthew Nandu leading their respective XIs as part of the Guyana Harpy Eagles preparation for the regional 4-day competition. The second match is slated for January 16–19.

Nandu’s XI will feature a number of rising stars, such as Kemol Savoury, Shamar Yearwood, and Nial Smith, as well as last year’s Harpy Eagles skipper Veerasammy Permaul.

Meanwhile, veteran left-arm spinner Adams will lead his side, which will feature the likes of Kevlon Anderson, Junior Sinclair, Quentin Sampson, Akshaya Persaud, and Zeynul Ramsammy.

The matches will serve as a litmus test of the current pool of talent ahead of the regional 4-day tournament, which kicks off early next month (February).

Kevin Sinclair, Gudakesh Motie, Tevin Imlach, and other senior members of the Harpy Eagles side are away on overseas duty.
