The Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) notes with concern an article in Yesterday’s edition of the (January 8, 2024) Stabroek News, page 13 where the contributor sought to portray the image that “a pound of sugar that cost $120/$140 a couple months back; now costs $200”. GuySuCo wishes to notify the public that there has been no rise in sugar prices for the local market in the past nineteen (19) months. The last price increase in the local market occurred in July 2022. Presently, the price for sugar when purchased from GuySuCo is as follows:
Packaged Sugar: $5800 per bale (40 lbs.)
Bagged Sugar: $12,100 per bag (110 lbs.)
Persons desirous of purchasing sugar directly from the Guyana Sugar Corporation are encouraged to make contact with the Marketing Department at the La Bonne Intention (ECD) Head Office or call 592- 220-2891.
