Guyanese basketball player loses on collegiate circuit

Guyanese national basketball player Israel Yaw and his team, the University of Maryland, went down to Howard University 61-72 at the Burr Gymnasium in Washington, DC, on Saturday.

It was the second consecutive loss for Yaw, who, in 16 minutes of action, recorded figures of seven points, three rebounds, and one block.

With the defeat, his team’s record drops to 4-11. The former Plaisance Guardians standout is slated to return to court on Saturday against Delaware State University.

Yaw had previously attended ASA College and appeared in 22 matches. He averaged 12.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game during his junior-collegiate career.
