Rain forces abandonment of day 3 in Harpy Eagles trial match

The Guyana Harpy Eagles four-day trial match faced yet another day of abandonment as heavy rainfall on Wednesday night and yesterday morning saw the Meten-Meer-Zorg Community Ground inundated.

Officials from the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) told the media, “No play was possible today [yesterday], however, barring no heavy rainfall overnight (last night) and early morning, we should have some play tomorrow (today). Additionally, the GCB has decided to add at least one more day (Saturday) to the match, weather permitting.”

On Tuesday, Antony Adams XI had won the toss and elected to bat, but the side did not make it beyond the second session, bowling out for 144 after lunch as Matthew Nandu’s XI spin twins Steven Sankar (3/19) and Richie Looknauth (4/41) ran riot.

In reply, skipper Nandu (43) and Raymond Perez (41) along with wicket-keeper batsmen Kemol Savoury (21 not out) and Shamar Yearwood (9 not out) guided their side to 119/2 (44 overs) at stumps. Junior Sinclair and Adams ended the day’s play with figures of 1/23 (13 overs) and 1/26 (10 overs), respectively.
