Colts and Eagles secured a 1-0 lead in their best of three playoff series against Kobras and the University of Guyana (UG) Trojans, respectively, when the inaugural edition of the ‘One Guyana’ Basketball Premier League resumed on Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

Colts beat the Kobras by a 66-51 score-line. The quintet of Shane Webster, Shelroy Thomas,

Carmelo Mon-Sing, Domitri Rankin, and Quacey Lindo scored 10, nine, eight, seven, and six points, respectively. On the other side, Elijah David recorded a game-high 17 points, while Drexel Aaron and Trevor Smith supported him with 10 and nine points, respectively.

Racing away to a 19-9 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter, the Colts saw their sizeable lead significantly reduced as they were outscored by the Trojans 7-15 in the second stanza to enter the halftime interval at 26-24.

However, any hopes of a Kobras come-from-behind win were significantly impeded in the third quarter, as the Colts recorded 18 points while reducing their opponent to a meagre eight points to storm into the final quarter in control at 44-32. Kobras aspiration of victory was then extinguished as they were outhustled 22-19 in the fourth period.

Similarly, the Eagles crushed the UG Trojans 72-59. Daniel Ross led the rout with 23 points. He was supported by the combination of Travis Belgrave and Michael Richards, who scored 17 and 11 points, respectively.

Kadeem Peterkin and Jushawn Bailey were the only scorers in double digits with 12 and 10 points, respectively, while Jether Harris was the next best scorer with seven points. Securing a marginal 25-20 lead at the end of the first period, the Eagles soared further ahead, netting 16 points, while restricting the Trojans to 11 points to enter the halftime interval in control at 41-31. The Eagles further extended their advantage, outscoring their opponent 17-8 in the pivotal third stanza to lead 58-39 entering the final quarter.

With a commanding lead at their disposal, the Eagles, who opted to bench several of their starters, were outscored 14-20 in the fourth period.
