Berbice cops probing alleged chopping and shooting incident

Police are investigating an alleged chopping and shooting incident that occurred yesterday between 02:15 hrs and 03:00 hrs, involving a group of men between the ages of 24 and 30 at Pitt Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice.

According to the police, the men were at a popular nightclub imbibing, when an argument ensued, which resulted in the chopping and shooting incident.

At about 05:45 hrs, the police in Regional Division Six,  acting on information received, went to the home of a 26-year-old unemployed man, of Lot 43-12 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam Berbice, and questioned him in relation to a firearm that was taken away from a man at Pitt Street during an alleged shooting incident.

According to police, a .32 pistol with an empty magazine was found in a clump of bushes. The firearm was dusted for latent prints, photographed, marked and lodged. Investigations are continuing.
