Minibus operators remanded to prison over larceny

Keon Webster and Kareem Douglas appeared before Magistrate Rhondel Weever on Monday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court charged with larceny.

It is alleged that on February 15, 2024, at Magnum Place Stabroek, they stole one motorcar front grill valued $90,000, property of Anthony Rice. The duo, who are said to be minibus operators, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution told the court that the grill was recovered from the defendants’ minibus and that both defendants admitted to the police that they stole the item. The prosecution also informed the court that they are in possession of CCTV footage which shows the defendants in the act.

Webster, who is the driver of the minibus, explained that he was at the Park when someone came to him and asked him to do a special to which he responded he could not. The person then presented the grill to him and asked if he would like to buy it for $15,000 to which he refused but gave a counter offer of $10,000 to which the person agreed. The magistrate refused the duo bail and they were remanded to prison until March 18, 2024.
