Two arrested over  shooting of Region Six DREO’s mother

The police in Region Six have arrested two persons in connection with the shooting last Tuesday evening which resulted in the region’s Deputy Regional Executive Officer’s (DREO’s) mother being injured.

The shooting happened just after midnight at Sheet Anchor Public Road, East Canje Berbice on Tuesday.

The victim, Fay Samaroo, 54, of Lot 6 Sheet Anchor Public Road, East Canje Berbice sustained two gunshot wounds.

According to the information gathered, the woman, who is the mother of Mary Samaroo, the region’s DREO, sustained two gunshot injuries and remains hospitalized at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. As of yesterday afternoon, her condition remained stable but serious.

Commander of Region Six, Shivpersaud Bacchus yesterday confirmed that two persons were held for questioning.

Sources close to the investigation said that one of the persons in custody, an 18-year-old,  has confessed to carrying out the shooting.

According to the source, the firearm, empty magazine, a motorcycle and clothing the shooter was wearing were found at the Vryheid Village, West Canje Berbice location where the suspect was arrested.
