A team of officers from the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) went to the scene, where they found the bodies of Rudolph Donnie James, 32-year-old Randy Graves, and Sgt Larry Phillip.

The three men were declared dead at the scene.

Officers were also told that two other men—identified as Pete Noray and Devon Jack—were taken to hospital by passers-by, but died shortly after their arrival.
