Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport conducts lighting test at MSC

On Monday evening, the skies in Linden blazed brightly as the international standard stadium lights were tested as the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports forges ahead in their drive to transform the McKenzie Sports Club ground into a multi-purpose stadium for football and cricket.

At the testing, Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sport Charles Ramson Jr. revealed that the lights are remotely controlled, which will maximise energy efficiency while minimising operational costs.

The project is being undertaken in a phased manner, and thus far the plain surface of the ground has been completed, while underground pipes, the flood drainage catchment basin, and herringbone perforated pipes have also been installed.

The next phase of the project will see the construction of the stands and players’ pavilions. According to the Ministry, the ground is expected to host practice matches and warm-up sessions during ICC-hosted games in Guyana when completed.
