This was disclosed by Dominican Republic (DR) Ambassador to Guyana, Ernesto Torres-Pereyra, during a briefing  with the media at the office of the Dominican Republic Chamber of Commerce at Pegasus Corporate Suites, in Kingston, Georgetown.

The Ambassador posited that the forum will present the opportunity for leaders in the Caribbean to discuss critical areas such as food and energy security, the existential effects of climate change, oil and gas, tourism, and commerce.

Describing Clinton as an exemplary leader, Torres-Pereyra said that the former US President will be able to share his expertise here about trade, foreign policies, etcetera.

He said that his country will continue to show interest in fostering a bilateral relationship with Guyana, which he hopes to further at the forum come Tues-day, and was adamant that the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) must synergize to build a united and resilient region.

Torres-Pereyra recapped that a few months ago, the Inter-Energy Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Guyana Power & Light to invest and assist in the infrastructural and operational redesign of its current energy grid.

He noted that Grupo Punta Cana has confirmed its commitment to develop an eco-resort and has also signed a MoU with the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri to explore areas of cooperation, and possibly invest in a new terminal, pending further assessments.

The Ambassador also highlighted that on February 18 of this year, Sky High Dominicana officially entered the Guyana market with three weekly flights scheduled to the Dominican Republic. Calling this a “monumental” step, he noted that this connectivity in aviation is expected to boost tourism, trade, and investment, between the two nations.

Asked about Guyana’s call for the condemnation of Venezuela’s recent actions, the Ambassador stressed the use of international mechanisms to settle any controversy. Stating that any action that can be a factor in altering the peace of the region is a matter of grave concern, the Ambassador said that the Dominican Republic believes that  international mechanisms are the only viable way of solving such situations.

“…we should promote dialogue and also the utilization of international mechanisms to solve any kind of  dispute… as the only way, as the only, only way  to settle any kind of controversy”, he added.
