Forty-nine-year-old Ying Gou Sun of Seven Mile, Linden was placed on $150,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with forgery.

It was alleged that on March 30, 2024 at the Air Services Limited base in Mahdia, he presented a forged document to immigration authorities. He was not required to plead to the charge.

It was revealed by the prosecution that on November 30, 2019 Sun came to Guyana from China, where he was granted a one month stay. However on presentation of his passport to the immigration officers on the day in question, when thoroughly examined it was revealed to have been forged. The prosecution stated that Sun had never applied for or was granted an extension of stay.

The prosecution objected to bail stating that Sun poses a flight risk which may hinder investigations.

Sun was represented by attorney Pamela De Santos who said that her client was not a flight risk as he had already lodged his passport at the police station. She added that Sun has assets in Guyana. She said based on what her client instructed her, he was unaware that the documents were not valid. As such she informed the court that if given time he will have the documents rectified.

Magistrate Nurse then granted bail in the sum of $150,000 with the condition that the accused reports to CID headquarters every Monday until the end of the case.

The matter was adjourned to May 7  for statements and fixture.
