Huis T’ Dieren was crowned the Essequibo champion in the Future Warriors Primary School Tapeball Tournament, prevailing via net run rate (NRR) following the conclusion of the final group state segment yesterday at the Imam Bacchus ground in Affiance.

NRR was needed to decide the outcome after the three remaining teams, Huis T’ Dieren, Mainstay, and 8th of May, ended with an identical record of one win and a loss, respectively, following the conclusion of the round-robin segment.

However, Huis T’ Dieren prevailed due to their superior NRR of 0.640, relegating Mainstay and 8th of May to second and third, respectively, following an NRR of 0.234 and -0.965 apiece.

Huis T’ Dieren will now advance to the national championship, which is slated for September. They will play against Demerara winner Stella Maris and Berbice champion Cropper Primary.

Meanwhile, in the first match of the group segment, Huis T’ Dieren defeated the 8th of May by 10 wickets after successfully overhauling the target of 52 runs in a mere 5.3 overs.

However, Huis T’ Dieren lost their second match to Mainstay by six wickets. Batting first, Huis T’ Dieren posted 44/6 during their allotted eight overs, only for the total to be achieved by their opponent for the loss of four wickets.

The tie on points then occurred as the 8th of May defeated Mainstay by five wickets in the final group fixture. 8th of May successfully overhauled the target of 57 in 7.2 overs, in the process forcing the event to be decided by NRR.
