Jaikaran produces epic unbeaten 400 as DCC thrash Diplomats

The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground paid witness to a stunning assault from their opening batsman, Brandon Jaikaran, who produced an epic and possibly record-setting innings of 400 not out from just 231 deliveries as the hosts thrashed a short-staffed Diplomats by an innings and 568 runs.

Jaikaran resumed the second and final day of their GCA and Friends 2nd Division 2-Day match yesterday at 185, while 12-year-old Lomar Seecharran was at 66 not out. The duo took DCC from their overnight 396/2 to 513 before Seecharran fell for 104, possibly setting a record of his own for the youngest batsman to make a 2nd division century.

Jaikaran’s 400 not out contained an astounding 55 fours and 12 sixes as he pushed his side to 666 declared, setting the Diplomats an unlikely target of 618 to win.

The Diplomats, who were short of players after being bowled out for 48 in their first inning, did slightly better to get to 50/8 in their second inning, losing by a whopping 88 and 568 runs.

Doing the damage for the DCC bowling attack was Jonathan Mentore, who took 3/28, while Mickle Sharma had 2/11.
