GCB’s inaugural ‘Guyana T10 Blast’ bowls off tomorrow

– six franchises from the three counties to feature

The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) will run off their inaugural T10 tournament, titled the ‘Guyana T10 Blast’ which bowls off tomorrow, with an exciting double-header slated for the Enmore ground, East Coast Demerara.

Six franchise teams, of which two will emanate from each county, have been selected to participate. The franchises are the Essequibo Jaguars, Demerara Pitbulls, Berbice Piranhas, Essequibo Anacondas, Berbice Caimans, and Demerara Hawks.

Round one, which kicks off tomorrow at Enmore Ground, will see the Jaguars and Hawks jump into action at 12:00hrs, while the Pitbulls will clash with the Caimans at 14:30hrs.

Meanwhile, rounds two and three will continue on Wednesday (April 24) and Thursday (April 25), respectively, at the same location.

Piranhas and Anacondas will face off at noon, while the Essequibo Jaguars and Caimans of Berbice will battle at 14:30hrs.

In Thursday’s fixtures, the Pitbulls will face off against the Anacondas at 12:30hrs, while the Piranhas will oppose the Hawks at 14:30hrs. 

Seven grounds across the country will be in use, including No. 69 Ground in Berbice, Malteenoes in Georgetown, Imam Bacchus in Essequibo, and Blairmont in Berbice. The other venues will be announced at a later date.

In a press release ahead of the start of the tournament, GCB president Bissoondyal Singh said “this initiative has been on the agenda ever since the board was elected” and added that he’s pleased to be in partnership with FanCode as “we seek to modernise the game in Guyana.”.

Singh also pointed out that the quality of the players that will be in action is set to make the tournament intriguing, and he urged fans to turn out in their numbers.

The squad will see 90 of the best players, along with a number of top upcoming coaches involved in the tournament. According to the GCB, the aim is to “afford players the opportunity to showcase their talent in this specific T10 format.”

As a mandate, the GCB revealed that all franchises are expected to have two U-19 players in their playing XI at all times, as part of the continued development of the younger core of players.

Players and team selection was carried out by a draw supervised by the chairman of the national senior selectors, Ramnaresh Sarwan, and his selection panel.

Meanwhile, FanCode, an Indian streaming service, has come on board as the exclusive digital partner for India and the Indian subcontinent territories. All matches will be live streamed, with Guyana’s top cricketers on show across the world.
