Former Mike’s Pharmacy building hit by fire

The building that previously housed  Mike’s Pharmacy at Robb and Alexander Sts was yesterday hit by a fire of unknown origin at around 2 pm.

One eyewitness related to Stabroek News that he saw smoke emanating from the building and by the time the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) got into action the structure was partially destroyed.

Another eyewitness told this newspaper that vagrants would dump refuse and other matter in the area.

According to a senior fire-fighter the cause of the blaze is currently being investigated.

Meanwhile the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GTT) Company at 8:02 pm last night sent a message to customers informing them that the Fibre Internet services in Georgetown have been affected due to the fire. Some of its hardware was said to have been damaged.

In its message to customers the tech company said that it is assessing the affected area where the fire occurred and restoration works have begun.
