Dear Editor,
I am appalled at the persons responsible for infrastructural works in Region Three. It makes me wonder at the councillors and NDC Chairman of the Tuschen-Uitvlugt NDC. There is a bridge at the Plantation Zeeburg/De Willem Housing Scheme that showed signs of significant deterioration since last quarter of last year. It appears that this bridge is ignored completely. Instead, the authorities saw it best to tear down a section of a wooden fence at the Meten-Meer-Zorg Primary School which would keep unwanted persons and animals from the compound for another three to four years. Hence, there was no urgent need to tear the fence down and erect another at this time.
Editor, it is frustrating. Instead, they could have done works on the school’s compound which has uneven ground like that of a cow pasture. This condition has existed for many years. This restricts children with regards to play. Educational psychologists agree that play is an integral part of children’s learning, instead, it appears that the handing out of unwanted contracts and mismanagement of taxpayer’s dollars is of paramount importance. It is distressing to these two important works not being advertised with other bids for contracts. It seems that the blind are leading the sighted.
Editor, it appears that someone must lose their life or be seriously injured because of the bridge to move the Regional Administration to undertake the urgent repairs to that bridge. I am pleading with the authorities to apply just a little bit of wisdom and do first things first.
