Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited has taken what it describes as “a bold step forward” in digital financial literacy in youth by sponsoring students from several local high schools in the pioneering Sustainable Stock Market Game, a release from the bank stated yesterday.

It explained that this innovative initiative is part of the bank’s “Power to Make a Difference” programme which is also aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 which is quality education. By leveraging artificial intelligence (AI), the bank stated that it brings an “unprecedented” level of excitement and educational depth to student engagements in personal finance.

Students from St. Joseph High School, St. Rose’s High School, St. John’s College, and School of the Nations, will participate in the Regional Premier League competition between Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago. Each student will begin with US$25,000 in virtual currency to budget, save and invest in the stock markets of Guyana (GY), Trinidad and Tobago (TT), Barbados (Bdos), Jamaica (JA), and the United States (US).

According to the release, the aim of this immersive experience is to build diverse portfolios through strategic asset allocation and enhance the students’ understanding of the CARICOM capital market, thereby fostering academic excellence and national pride among participants. In a commitment to transparency and motivational achievement, the game includes a Caribbean Ranking Leaderboard, which allows participants and stakeholders to monitor performance across the region.

Further, students can also explore the operations and leaderships of various companies across different sectors, to enhance their understanding of how financial literacy is applied in real world settings. They can also access WizdomCRM’s AI tutor, ‘Maven’, which provides real-time guidance on mathematics, personal finance, and business concepts. Moreover, each participant will be awarded an e-certificate upon completion of the game, which not only serves as a testament to their participation but also enriches their personal academic portfolios, helping them stand out in future educational and career pursuits.

Manager, Head Office, Republic Bank (Guyana), Stanton Grant, noted, “This project was made possible through the generosity of Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited, as part of its Power to Make a Difference Programme,” adding, “We are committed to supporting our nation’s youth by providing them with opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed in the global economy.
