Three charged over disorderly behaviour at police roadblock

The driver of  Toyota Land Cruiser PAE 528 along with two other men who allegedly verbally abused police ranks at a roadblock yesterday appeared before Magistrate  Sunil Scarce at the Diamond/Grove  Magistrate’s court.

Paul Daby was charged with disorderly behaviour, causing obstruction with a motor vehicle and  five counts of abusive language. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail in the sum of $30,000.

Sherwayne De Abreau and Alpha Poole were both charged with disorderly behaviour and five counts of abusive language each. They also pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of $50,000 each.

All the matters were adjourned until May 31, 2024.

The police had said that on May 6, 2024, at approximately 9.15 pm  Police ranks in Regional Division 4B were conducting a roadblock exercise at Diamond Public Road. During this time, the Land Cruiser was stopped. The driver, Daby, stopped his vehicle in the middle of the road, thereby preventing the free flow of traffic.

Daby and his three  friends, Deion Jerrick,  De Abreau, and  Poole, then allegedly became verbally abusive towards the police officers and proceeded to behave in a disorderly manner, which resulted in a crowd gathering.

The ranks continued to carry out their duties, and the mentioned individuals and vehicle were searched. No illegal items were found.

The four individuals were subsequently arrested for disorderly behaviour and taken to the Golden Grove Police Station for processing.
