Biker hurt in Albouystown accident

On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at about 8.15 pm, the police said that a serious accident occurred on Independence Boulevard and Hill Street, Albouystown involving PAE 3982 owned by Denvor Rankin of Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara  and driven by Rudy Van-Der-Meer, age 28, a deliveryman of Lot 15 Norton Street Werk-en-Rust Georgetown, and  a motorcycle (unregistered) ridden by Nicholie De Souza, age 19, a mechanic of 27 D’Urban Street, Lodge, Georgetown.

Inquiries revealed that the driver of motor car # PAE 3982 was proceeding west along the southern drive lane of Independence Boulevard, Albouystown, whilst the motorcyclist was proceeding east along the northern drive lane of Independence Boulevard, Albouystown, at an allegedly fast rate.  As both vehicles approached the intersection of Independence Boulevard and Hill Street, the driver of the motor car made a right turn north onto Hill Street, ending up in the path of the motorcyclist resulting in a collision when the motorcycle struck the front, left side passenger door.

The collision flung the motorcyclist into the air and he landed on the road, sustaining injuries to his body, the police said.

He was picked him up in a conscious state and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was seen by a doctor on duty and treated for abrasions to the forehead and a broken left leg.

The driver of the motor car is currently in custody, assisting with the investigation.
