Police ranks of Regional Division 4 ‘C’, during an intel-led operation on  Tuesday, May 21, 2024 recovered a 9X Glock 19 pistol, eleven  9mm rounds of ammunition and a quantity of cannabis in a car at Second Street, Montrose, East Coast Demerara.

The 24-year-old suspect and owner of the motorcar, who was standing in a nearby yard with its gate locked, managed to evade the ranks after he ran and jumped several fences, the police said in a statement yesterday.

Acting on information received, police ranks went to the area and found the motorcar (PAD 180), a heavily tinted white Toyota Premio, parked on the parapet with its engine running.

The 24-year-old suspect, who is known to the police, and two females and a man, all of whom reside at the said address, were seen standing in the yard. The suspect was asked by the police to come out of the yard for questioning, and he fled.

The police then proceeded to examine the motor car, in which they found one brown 9X Glock 19  on the driver’s seat. Further examination revealed a transparent plastic containing a quantity of seeds, leaves, and stems suspected to be cannabis on the left side front passenger seat along with a black strap bag containing documents.

On the right side back passenger seat, a brown bag containing $10,400 in twenty dollar notes, and a black samsung cellphone were seen on the centre console, the police said.

A driver’s licence, along with other documents, all in favour of the 24-year-old suspect, were also found in the car.

The exhibits and motorcar were escorted to the Sparendaam Police Station and lodged.

The narcotics, when weighed, amounted to 8.5 grams, which was marked sealed and lodged.

Further investigations are ongoing.
