Letters to the Editor

Dangerous fabrication

Dear Editor, Please allow me to use your column to highlight a dangerous piece of mischief circulated this past Sunday on the internet (Facebook) by someone using the name Tamara Deokumarie.

Linden protesters denying critical supplies to Lethem and other communities but allowed PNC Congress delegates to pass

Dear Editor, As the situation in Lethem worsens due to the acute shortage of critical supplies, such as rations and fuel, as a consequence of the protest action in Linden, residents of this community are wondering if we are collateral damage in this ongoing saga and whether our needs are not considered important enough for those so called freedom activists, leaders and politicians to encourage the protestors to allow at least fuel and rations to pass through en route to Lethem and other outlying communities which are presently being affected by this protest.

Knows not what to do with power

Dear Editor, I feel sorry for President Ramotar. Though the bulk of my sympathy is usually reserved for the suffering masses, there is still some left for the man.

The police killed a man during the Albion protest against armed robbery

Dear Editor, I refer to the article on page 19 of the Stabroek News of Thursday, July 26 headlined, ‘APNU leads “Day of Mourning” demonstrations in city,’ where Region 10 Chairman Sharma Soloman was quoted as saying, “I think there is one law that applies to the people of Linden and one that applies to the people of Albion because I have seen persons blocking roads in Albion, which impedes the flow of traffic, and nobody has been killed so far.”

We should encourage competition

Dear Editor, I read your article (SN, July 24) captioned, ‘Digicel announces up to 88 % reduction on international rates –GT&T says appealing judge’s ruling, stay granted’ and thought this was a good opportunity to link this situation with the Olympics, the usefulness of effective oversight by a vibrant Public Utilities Commission, and the benefits consumers enjoy from competition.

Working class party?

Dear Editor, I hope that struggling, hardworking Guyanese are suitably impressed with their ‘working class champions’ from the ‘working class’ party in the Office of the President.
