Letters to the Editor

A significant factor

Dear Editor, Arising out of the final results of the November general elections is one significant factor, it appears to me.

What were the results of Gecom’s internal investigations into the AFC’s Region 10 seat claim following the 2006 elections?

Dear Editor, With reference to a letter by Gecom’s press officer seeking to “educate” Mr Freddie Kissoon (“Gecom followed the law…’ SN, December 24) on matters pertaining to Gecom’s management of the registration and electoral process, I am sure that Mr Kissoon will respond shortly in his own uniquely elegant manner, but permit me to offer some comments on two sections.

Garbage city

Dear Editor, Several years ago around the time when Compton Young was the Mayor of Georgetown a female member of the Consumers Association speaking on one of her radio broadcasts said that Georgetown had moved from Garden City to Garbage City and that “Georgetown literally stinks.”

The GDF, Police and UG football clubs have to remain neutral

Dear Editor, I hasten to respond to an article in your publication of December 20 pertaining to the withdrawal of the GDF Football Club from the GFA/Banks DIH Knockout Tournament, and their subsequent suspension by the Georgetown Football Association from all football-related activities under their auspices.

A call for resignation or dismissal does not deny the Commissioner his presumption of innocence

Dear Editor, With reference to the letter by Neil Aubrey Boston captioned ‘The media should not be “trying” the Commissioner’ (SN, December 21), Mr Boston must know that a citizen’s duty to call for the resignation or the dismissal of the holder of high public office upon serious allegations of impropriety  is not a denial of that high office holder’s right to the presumption of innocence.

No sense of time

Dear Editor, On December 19 I was invited to two Christmas get-togethers, one in my home village among my nephews and one in Georgetown among friends, so I decided to go with the friends in Georgetown.

Aubrey Norton should not have been sidelined

Dear Editor, The business of selecting Parliamentarians is a very serious one, which upon conclusion, ought to display a team comprising the best minds of any political party, capable of handling the affairs of Parliament efficiently and effectively.

Disheartened by the quality of politics

Dear Editor, The game of politics we play and the way in which the common folks are manipulated by rogue politicians is like a shackle that keeps us making one step forward and any number backwards.
