Letters to the Editor

The PPP should court the return of Nagamootoo

Dear Editor, The outcome of last week’s general elections in Guyana reminds me of what happened in Trinidad in 2001 as a result of a division in the ruling camp when a party stalwart was not on the party’s list of candidates.

Similarities

Dear Editor, This morning on Canadian National Radio, there was an excellent documentary on the minority outcome of Russia’s recent parliamentary elections, and the unpopularity of Vladimir Putin who until now has been gleefully attempting to stage a comeback.

The new cabinet’s size represents duplication and waste

Dear Editor, Re: ‘Ramotar adds few new faces, ministry to cabinet,‘ (SN, December 6), President Donald Ramotar did say that his cabinet will be comprised entirely of PPP/Civic members, except for the Prime Minister who came in on the new Civic arm in 1992 and Bishop Juan Edghill’s appointment to Minister within the Ministry of Finance.

Linden could become a hub for international trade

Dear Editor, Linden’s ideal geographic location, 65 miles away from Georgetown, up the Demerara River, has afforded the town long before its Mackenzie days a lasting taste of international trade, first through forestry, then more significantly, bauxite mining.

Singer store was open on December 2

Dear Editor, Our client, Singer Guyana Inc, is hereby requesting an immediate retraction for article captioned ‘City businesses in yo-yo mode‘ in your Friday, December 2 publication on page 18.

The PSC wants peace without justice

Dear Editor, The Private Sector Commission (PSC) is calling for the contesting parties to accept the results of the recently concluded ‘elections‘ declared by Gecom and in flagrant disregard of the legitimate call by APNU for a verification of Statements of Poll by Gecom and all the political parties as a pre-condition of their acceptance.

The rumour mill is efficient

Dear Editor, The rumour mill in Guyana is reputedly the most efficient and well-calibrated tool of destruction ever created by the malicious, the uneducated and the vindictive.

Ethnicity remains a major factor in elections

Dear Editor, Going by Gecom’s publication of the results of the National and Regional Elections one element that stands out is that the majority of the electorate has leaned heavily in favour of the candidate based on their ethnic identity.
