Letters to the Editor

A double century and a century

Dear Editor, Reference is made to a letter written by Mr R G Venton which was published in the March 11 edition of Stabroek News under the heading ‘A triple and a double century,’ and I wish to make the general public aware of a few of several inaccuracies contained therein.

More democracy, less centralism

Dear Editor, I would like to bring to your readership’s attention that in 1998, when I gave up my seat as a PPP parliamentarian and resigned from the PPP, calling publicly for reforms in our constitution and new politics for this country and in the PPP also, not one of the present agitators for “change” who were in the PPP at that time ever opened their mouths to support my positions.

The pillorying of candidates should not define the whole election campaign

Dear Editor, Like most Guyanese at home and abroad, I was shocked numb when I read your news story, ‘Jagdeo attacks Granger, Trotman,’ (March 9), and while the attack on  the AFC’s Raphael Trotman does not really make political hay seeing he is not on his party’s presidential ticket, it is the President’s diatribe against Mr Granger that has piqued my interest.

The President and punctuality

Dear Editor, I wish to refer to your editorial in today’s Stabroek News (March 10) under the caption ‘Time,’ in which you commented on the concerns raised by Mr Vanrick Beresford in a letter published last Tuesday (‘Punctuality is a hallmark of excellence’ SN, March 8) in connection with the launching of the Men’s Affairs Bureau.

Improper impounding of animals

Dear Editor, It was recently noticed that the Anna Regina Town Council had increased their impounding fees for cattle to ten thousand per head, irrespective of where the animals were impounded.

‘Onward, upward,’ not backward

Dear Editor,A few days ago I heard  President Jagdeo at Babu John, glorifying the Jagans and demonizing the PNC as he dug into the ’70s and lashed out at Mr Granger and the opposition camp.

A triple and a double century

Dear Editor, It is in the interest of the Guyana Billiards & Pool Association, as a sporting organization endeavouring to gain a position in the national sports sphere, to keep in touch with certain events in other areas of sport, since billiards and pool are games played by a wide cross-section of society both here in Guyana and elsewhere.

Cottage vandalized, land being stolen

Dear Editor, I sent a copy of letter (enclosed) to the District Village Office at Plantain Walk, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, about my cottage being dismantled piece by piece, and now the neighbours are stealing my land bit by bit.

People’s President

Dear Editor, I have the highest regard and deepest respect for your newspaper, and enjoy its informative contents.

Progress?

Dear Editor, A pilot called Patrick Smith has something to say about Guyana.

Grab the moment

Dear Editor, The 2011 general election in our country is indeed a defining moment, historically and otherwise.
