Letters to the Editor

Are there no alternative plans to LCDS out there for our economy?

Dear Editor, Maybe before the President demits office in 2011 he will realize that his one-man struggle to get his hands on hundreds of millions of dollars to finance his ailing LCDS is not going to happen, and that while his ’Champion of the Earth’ award from the UNEP may have boosted his personal resumé, it did ‘diddly squat’ for the economy, which is where awards and rewards ought to have mattered more.

Opening more water flows within the EDWC will facilitate greater discharges into the Demerara but will not increase the hydraulic head

Dear Editor, In the Sunday Stabroek article of June 13 captioned ‘Drainage sluices working properly, Persaud says,’ Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud stated that all the East Demerara Water Conservancy (EDWC) flood relief structures discharging into the Demerara River are working properly, but nevertheless concluded they were not functioning at their maximum capacity because of existing cross conservancy difference in the hydraulic head.

Surprised China supported sanctions against Iran

Dear Editor, When the USA and the EU were working to get the UN to impose sanctions against Iran I was unsure how the Russians would vote due to their new found friendship with the West and their ‘hold me, loose me’ behaviour.

World Cup is fun and excitement

Dear Editor, South American red-hot chilli pepper, Shakira, was born to sing and perform the World Cup Soccer official song Waka Waka as she did during the Johannesburg concert.

Registrants cannot be sanctioned for failing to uplift ID cards

Dear Editor, Please permit me to correct the text of the penultimate paragraph in the letter, to the editor penned by me, which was published in your Saturday, June 12, 2010 issue of the Stabroek News under the title ‘Gecom spared no effort to motivate all eligible registrants to register.’
