Dear Editor,
On the occasion of the International Day of solidarity with working people commonly called May Day, we at Public Interest Research send our greetings to the working people of Guyana and further afield in the Caribbean.
Dear Editor,
Over the past two months Guyanese have been caught in the web of two important issues, the recently held General Elections debacle and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dear Editor,
I write in response to Lin-Jay Harry-Voglezon’s fulminations `Malicious, mischievous and reckless editorial’ (SN April 29) as it pertains to Stabroek News’s editorial dated, April 27, 2020.
Dear Editor,
It distresses me every time I make a trip to Guyana to visit my parents’ graves in the Le Repentir Cemetery in the capital city Georgetown.
Dear Editor,
Permit me space in your newspaper to express my profound disappointment in the performance of the Guyana Elections Commission Chair, Justice (Ret’d) Claudette Singh.
Dear Editor,
Attention is drawn to the letter of Charles Ramson, Commissioner of Information (Stabroek News 29th April- ‘Refusal of Chief Election Officer to hand over SoPs is violation of law’).
Dear Editor,
GECOM is about to conduct a recount of the General and Regional Elections held on 2nd March, 2020, which was forced upon our country by the Returning Officer for District 4, Mr.
Dear Editor,
In spite of the fact that numerous governments around the world have sensibly implemented vital measures which are essential to safeguarding the lives of their vulnerable prison staff and inmates from becoming victims of the deadly novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic the Government of Guyana (GoG) and the Guyana Prisons Service (GPS) have not yet instituted adequate measures.
Dear Editor,
Expectedly, my characterization of Vincent Alexander in relation to the rigging at GECOM earned his wrath, as expressed in a letter, published in Sunday Stabroek, April 26, 2020 headed `I hold no brief for Mingo’s declaration’.
Dear Editor,
We, children of Guyana, many on this list who have voted for the first time, demand that our votes be tabulated and declared in a credible manner that reflects the will of the people.
Dear Editor,
In a previous letter to this newspaper (2019.09.21, Stabroek News), I noted the following: “GECOM’s credibility rests on: (1) the reasonable public seeing that it is competent and independent; and (2) the reasonable public accepting that it is capable of conducting credible and impartial elections.”
Dear Editor,
The recent letter in the Stabroek News on the plight of pensioners is quite revealing and measures as suggested should be considered especially as we have witnessed the impact of this virus on the most vulnerable, that is, seniors over sixty years.
Dear Editor,
A report that at least 33,000 masks will be needed for the national recount of votes left the majority of the Guyanese people in disbelief.
