Letters to the Editor

Altering Mr. Granger’s perverse and fixed mindset can be done only by active, not passive resistance

Dear Editor, I begin this letter with the following excerpt from the Constitution of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana: ‘The principal objective of the political system of the State is to establish an inclusionary democracy by providing increasing opportunities for the participation of citizens, and their organizations in the management of decision making processes of the State, with particular emphasis on those areas of decision-making that directly affect their well-being.’

Ensure these guidelines on suicide reporting become normal practice

Dear Editor, The Caribbean Voice is thrilled that yet another training session on suicide reporting has been undertaken with Guyana media, especially in view of the fact the local media continues to sensationalize suicide, post pics of suicide victims, and use suicide inappropriate language such as ‘commit’.

Increase the water pressure

Dear Editor, We, the residents of first bridge Grove, New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara are kindly asking GWI to increase the water pressure.

Chief Constable drew the discovery of the money bag to the Mayor’s attention, matter still under probe

Dear Editor, At a statutory meeting of the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) held on Monday, July 22, 2019 I noted with shock and surprise in the print media that the Mayor of Georgetown Pandit Ubraj Narine reported that a bag containing cash belonging to the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) was found inside the vehicle assigned to Chief Constable Andrew Foo, and the Local Government Commission has since been called in to launch an investigation.

President Granger and Mr Jagdeo need to send for a ‘Joseph’

Dear Editor, I don’t think that Team President Granger and Team Bharrat Jagdeo really understand how this process of selecting a Chairman or not selecting a Chairman for the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) and when to hold elections and when not to hold elections is having on our people and society.

We must move forward with a list that is clean

Dear Editor, On behalf of the General Contractors Association (GCAG), and our eighty-plus businesses we believe that a credible and fair election must not only be a priority to uphold our democracy in Guyana, but to give us a government that is credible, a government that people trust, a government that truly represents the will of the people.
