Letters to the Editor

ExxonMobil should train some Guyanese

Dear Editor, We read in the Stabroek News that “Fresh from its recent discovery of oil at the Payara well site, US firm ExxonMobil is preparing to begin drilling at a new site in the Stabroek Block offshore of Demerara.”

Why is Jordan returning to the strategy which failed under Burnham?

Dear Editor, The Guyana Chronicle of February 2, reported that Minister of Finance Winston Jordan informed the Cabinet about the “disequilibrium in the foreign exchange market” and offered as a policy response, more regulations and guidelines to ensure that “exporters repatriate their export earnings to the banking system”.

Gov’t should develop means to measure oil that will be extracted, loaded onto vessels

Dear Editor, It was reported in the news media on February 2nd, that Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman had arranged for Jeff Simons, country manager for ExxonMobil development of its oil & gas sectors to address Ministers, Heads of Departments and others regarding production preparation and the methodology which will be deployed to produce oil by Year 2020 from the recently discovered Liza field off Guyana’s northern coast.

Trump’s signing of executive order has risks for Guyana

Dear Editor, On Feb 3, 2017 President Trump signed the executive order ‘Core Principles for Regulating the United States’ Financial System,’ which is his way of ‘doing a big number’ on the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, the 2010 legislation that followed the 2008 financial crisis and ‘great recession.’

Dear Editor, I was originally only going to focus this letter on the alternative facts spread by Bharrat Jagdeo’s picayune ‘media empire’ (iNews/TVG/Radio Guyana/MTV) regarding the riveting fantasy of my fugitive run from the long arms of the law for a deliberately and clearly ironic Facebook status on the parking meter issue and what I believe to its parallel and its vast superior in scale, the Sanata complex deal, but events of the past few days warrant commentary.
