Dear Editor,
I am in pain and shock again for the senseless murder of a hardworking and ambitious Guyanese, who worked night and day to pay the instalments on his car and as the sole breadwinner, maintain his family.
Dear Editor,
Some time in October last year, a policeman attached to the Aurora station removed my trailer which was not involved in any breach of the law with a privately owned tractor while it was stationary in my yard at Huis’t Dieren, and lodged it in the police compound.
Dear Editor,
I have often contended that in years to come when Guyanese in another dispensation can look back with some clarity of thought they will arrive at some unpleasant conclusions.
Dear Editor,
A critical look back at 2013 would reveal that even while there may have been physical progress (building of schools, hospitals, roads), as a nation, we have not managed to move forward with issues.
Dear Editor,
I deliberately waited to express my views about the late Nelson Mandela, who passed away on December 5, because I did not want them to be swallowed up by the millions of condolences, comments, commentaries, and analyses that would have naturally erupted once he died.
Dear Editor,
Regarding your news report ‘Thai Opposition Party to boycott election’ (SN, Dec 22), it is clear from analyses of Thai politics that elections are unlikely to be held in February, and I would be surprised if the armed forces don’t take over the government very soon with the blessing of the monarchy, as usually happens when the interests of the wealthy are threatened.
Dear Editor,
Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Roger Luncheon’s recent letter published in SN on December 25 captioned ‘The Government of Guyana was not consulted on the USAID project’ reflects the kind of sentiments Guyanese feel when Luncheon’s PPP/C government abuses its power.
Once you understand the ebb and flow in the fortunes of Guyana’s public servants in their unending quest for better wages and, by extension, a higher standard of living, the paucity of the turnout for the December 20 protest march would have been entirely unsurprising.
Dear Editor,
It recently came to my attention that comments were made about the 2013 National Drama Festival in an editorial comment by Jairo Rodrigues published in ‘The Scene,’ a Stabroek News Saturday supplement.
Dear Editor,
The more I see the level of incompetence permeating all levels of our society, the more convinced I become that we can never get anywhere.
Dear Editor,
It was with shock and horror that I learnt of Winston Jeeboo’s death on Saturday morning, shock because he was dead and horror at the manner in which he met his death.
Dear Editor,
One concern of the Guyanese public and a major impediment to real progress is the huge gap between the ideals to which our leaders pay lip service overseas and their contrasting actions at home.
