Dear Editor, Happy New Year to all at your esteemed newspaper.

Dear Editor, In response to Mr Urling’s ‘Guyana needs an integrated management plan to address the solid waste problem’ (SN, December 22), I would like to relate my experience, which might suggest to him that until such time certain public offices are staffed by officials whose integrity is beyond reproach and corruption is eliminated, the best-made management plans would most probably be ineffective.

Dear Editor, Patentia West, West Bank Demerara appears to be neglected with respect to the upkeep of streets.

Dear Editor, It is reassuring news that according to news reports 40 ranks have been shortlisted for SWAT training. 

It would probably not be an overstatement to say that the year just passed was dominated by events in the Middle East.

Dear Editor, A perusal of the headlines of our newspapers in Guyana demonstrates they carry stories of murders, domestic violence and robberies.

Dear Editor, My ewe sheep with a market value of $20,000 was impounded at the Suddie Police Station from where it mysteriously disappeared when I went to redeem it.

Dear Editor, I just read a reply from Ms Telesha Whyte, the PRO of the Guyana Post Office Corporation which appeared to deny any tampering with Ms Cynthia Nelson’s letters (‘GPOC has not received any report from Barbados Post Office of Guyana’s mail being cut open and taped,’ SN, Jamuary 4).

Dear Editor, I refer to PPP General Secretary Clement Rohee’s letter, ‘Exposing Bisram’s deep-seated ignorance,’ published in the Guyana Chronicle, on January 4.

Dear Editor, A prominent New York based newspaper has reported that the “Guyanese authorities” had concerns and were curious about the United States government’s grant to strengthen democracy at the local and grassroots level in Guyana.

Dear Editor, The attached image is a vivid picture of a dog scaling his owner’s fence running for cover from the sound emanating from the steady firecrackers on New Year’s night, Wednesday, January 1, 2014.

What politicians do, the decisions they make and the pronouncements which they place in the public domain have to do first and foremost with what they perceive to be best for their political fortunes.
