A little contrition and decency from the PPP would have gone a long way in the Linden crisis

Dear Editor, The Linden killings came on the heel of the following actions by the PPP since the November 2011 election: (1) the PPP accused the PNC of rigging the election when the PPP controlled the election machinery; (2) the PPP’s mouthpiece, the Guyana Chronicle, published a racist editorial which enraged Africans throughout Guyana; (3) the PPP bigwigs never apologized for the editorial; (4) some PPP persons sought to defend it as factual; (4) the PPP did not have heavily armed forces at a sugar workers’ protest in Albion that started before Linden, but it did so for Linden; (5) a top PPP leader stated before the election that no Africans were qualified for ambassadorial posts; (6) the PPP failed to listen to Lindeners on the tariff issue; (7) the PPP’s press release shortly after the Linden killings was boorish, inappropriate and uncaring; and (8) the PPP knew the protests were planned for only five days and that a restrained approach was preferable.

American elections and the Middle East

As seems to have become almost normal now, the approach of the American elections has produced a necessity for candidates to demonstrate their loyalty to the cause of Israel in the continuing encounters with which that country is faced, or has involved itself, in the Middle East.

Before the elections Ramotar undertook to have a strong Civic, but that has not happened

Dear Editor, In relation to a previous letter, one of the blogs asked me to evaluate President Ramotar’s eight months in office, and I would like to respond by stating that I attached myself to the PPP/Civic in the last elections with the proviso, made clear to the public and to Mr Ramotar, that I was following the principles of my father, President Cheddi, when he invented the term “critical support” during some of  his years in opposition.

Linden protesters denying critical supplies to Lethem and other communities but allowed PNC Congress delegates to pass

Dear Editor, As the situation in Lethem worsens due to the acute shortage of critical supplies, such as rations and fuel, as a consequence of the protest action in Linden, residents of this community are wondering if we are collateral damage in this ongoing saga and whether our needs are not considered important enough for those so called freedom activists, leaders and politicians to encourage the protestors to allow at least fuel and rations to pass through en route to Lethem and other outlying communities which are presently being affected by this protest.
