Dear Editor, As a born-and-bred Lindener, I register my heartfelt condolences to fellow Lindeners who mourn the ‘July 18 Linden Martyrs,’ and express my profound outrage at the corrupt PPP government and the equally corrupt Guyana Police Force – two peas in a pod.

Dear Editor, Even as I extend heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of those who were injured and died in Linden in the ongoing protest, I would like to point out that this situation is a reflection of the poor leadership of those who advertise themselves as leaders and representatives of the region.

Dear Editor, We write in relation to the UN press release on the meetings of the Committee on Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) on July 10, 2012, at which the Guyana Government’s periodic reports were presented and discussed.

Dear Editor, I pen this letter to register my disappointment at the misrepresentation of an interview that I gave to the Stabroek News which implied in its Sunday, July 15, 2012 report that I sought to justify the opinions expressed in a letter and by extension the Guyana Chronicle editorial of July 2 for which I had earlier offered an apology.

Dear Editor, Allow me first of all to express my sympathy and condolences to the fellow Guyanese who were either killed or injured during last Thursday’s peaceful demonstrations in Linden.

Dear Editor, On any given day as one travels from Beterverwagting to Georgetown, one is apt to encounter obstacles to the smooth flow of traffic, such as packs of dogs, herds of cows, droves of asses or herds of horses.

Yet again the United States is reflecting on its persistent problems with gun violence following a mass shooting at a suburban movie theatre near Denver, Colorado. 

Dear Editor, Now that it is clear that the standard procedures were not used to confront what was an obviously peaceful protest at Linden, no stone must be left unturned in the pursuit of clarity and the implementation of justice.

Dear Editor, Traditionally, in this country, the political scene has been dominated by ‘giants.‘

Dear Editor, Stabroek News of Wednesday, July 11 last, carried correspondence from Imran Khan which sought to denigrate President Donald Ramotar’s “alleged unqualified advisors” and discredit the President’s remarks at the opening ceremony of the 33rd Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of Caricom in St Lucia a few days ago (‘An internationally embarrassing episode’).

Dear Editor, The events in Linden call for the authorities of our country to mend fences and protect the people of Guyana from violence and bloodshed.

Dear Editor, I write as a member of the PNC and a national candidate of the APNU in the 2011 election to support a letter published in the Stabroek News on July 17.

Dear Editor, Please permit me to add my own contribution to the issue surrounding the purchase of the boat by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) in 2009.

Dear Editor, Amidst the swirl and fury of the Linden shooting deaths, I detect that the PPP government has decided on a particular approach to address its current minority status in parliament. 

Dear Editor, It is sad to note where our country is heading.

Dear Editor, It is interesting to observe the vigorous campaigning by some senior members of the PNC as that party prepares to elect a new leader.

Dear Editor, The Berbice Cricket Board must be complimented for its principled and responsible stand against the recent efforts of a few individuals who seem hell-bent on violating the laws and ethical values of our society.

After a period of relatively little comment regionally on the changing of the guard in Mexico’s July 1 general elections, two of our editorials last week focused on the implications of the return to office of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), for that country, its neighbours and the Caribbean, not only in political and economic terms but also with respect to the long-running drugs war that has claimed more than 50,000 lives.
