With Prince Harry visiting Jamaica this week, Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller repeated her intention to hold a referendum on Jamaica becoming a republic and no longer having Queen Elizabeth II as head of state.

The struggle continues

One hundred and one years ago, the first International Women’s Day was observed on March 19 in four countries in Europe – Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland, following the establishment a year earlier at a meeting in Copenhagen of a ‘women’s day’.

Still no Registrar of Deeds

 Dear Editor   The non-appointment of a Registrar of Deeds since at least the year 2000, must be regarded as a remarkable display of a contradiction of the usual official proclamations about the efficacious management and delivery of critical services, like those provided by the Deeds Registry to: legal personnel and institutions; financial institutions, business entities of varying categories (local and overseas) and individual clients.
