The much anticipated 2011 election has come and gone and as we settle into the post-election reality and try to dissect the results, the aftermath, what has happened, what lessons have been learnt, what has and hasn’t changed, one cannot do so without mentioning the little party with big dreams which thought it really could, the AFC.

Residents of Richmond Hill are opposing a move by New York City zoning officials to downzone the area making it difficult to expand one’s home or build large homes.
After the results of the November 28 General Elections were announced, re-instated Prime Minister Samuel Hinds was heard to say that the PPP/C would have much preferred to secure that extra seat that would have given it control of the National Assembly but that it is prepared to work with the two opposition political parties who control that single seat majority to ensure that we are able to run the country without having all hell break loose every time Parliament is convened.

With reference to a letter by Gecom’s press officer seeking to “educate” Mr Freddie Kissoon (“Gecom followed the law…’ SN, December 24) on matters pertaining to Gecom’s management of the registration and electoral process, I am sure that Mr Kissoon will respond shortly in his own uniquely elegant manner, but permit me to offer some comments on two sections.

Minority governments can never be a precondition for the majority opposition in the legislature to internalize the illusion that, by virtue of its majority, it has an executive role.

With reference to the letter by Neil Aubrey Boston captioned ‘The media should not be “trying” the Commissioner’ (SN, December 21), Mr Boston must know that a citizen’s duty to call for the resignation or the dismissal of the holder of high public office upon serious allegations of impropriety is not a denial of that high office holder’s right to the presumption of innocence.
