DCC deserved its Guyana Cricket Board award

Dear Editor, With reference to the letter in last Thursday’s edition of the Stabroek News titled ‘There was a strange selection of awardees at the Guyana Cricket Board Awards Ceremony,‘ I write to set certain records straight and place within the public purview our response to what the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) considers to be an unwarranted and misguided commentary regarding the achievements of the club over the past year.

On the right track

Less than a month into her tenure, new Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Jennifer Webster, put her staff and the public on notice when she announced earlier this month that high priority will be placed on improving systems through monitoring and evaluation.

Grateful to Region 10 EAB observers

Dear Editor, Though the Electoral Assistance Bureau (EAB) has already thanked their observers/volunteers for coming on board and being part of their team and for displaying commitment and patriotism during our just concluded November 28 electoral exercise, I nonetheless would like to personally add my special bit of thanks to all the Region 10 observers, supervisors and the Assistant Coordinator.

A year of surprises and uncertainty

A year that began with a major surprise, the popular uprising in Egypt in January, and then in February with another, the popular uprising against Colonel Gaddafi in Libya that lasted for most of the year, put the global community, and in particular the major global powers on alert that arrangements which they had made with various powers in the Middle East and its environs might not have the stability that had been expected.
