Mining worker charged over missing generator

Mining camp worker Claremont Noel was yesterday charged with stealing a generator that went missing from a mining camp around the same time he did.

Noel, 42, of Lot 635 Industrial Area, Mackenzie, Linden, denied the charge of simple larceny when he was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It was alleged that between November 13 and December 1, in Mousie Backdam, Essequibo, he stole a 500 watts generator, valued $500,000.

According to Prosecutor Venetta Pindar, the virtual complainant (VC) left the generator under a shed in Noel’s presence.

The VC, Pindar added, returned and discovered the generator and Noel both missing. As a result, a report was made to the Mahdia Police Station, leading to Noel’s arrest.

Pindar did not object to bail, which Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry set at $200,000.
The case was then transferred to the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court for January 13.
