For many Queen’s College alumni, the recent passing of Clem Yhap, known affectionately as “Balance”, in Halifax, Canada at the admirable age of 91, invoked moments of deep personal reflection and sadness.

The rivers in Guyana are sub-tributaries of the mighty Amazon

Dear Editor, Some years back after doing some research. I found that all the rivers in Guyana are sub – tributaries of the ” Mighty Amazon ” hence when the Amazon is in its flooding season, which is now, since it is summer time in the Andes which is where the Amazon begins , it takes a month from the head before the waters reach the mouth of the Amazon where it deposits approximately three million tons of silt which is now on the shores of Guyana as a result of the ” Guyana current ” which flows from the east .

Who murdered these fishermen?

While piracy has been a persistent problem along the coast in recent years, the discovery of bound bodies of fishermen and the disappearance of others has introduced a deadly twist and left the police with major mystery on their plate.

Toys bring smiles to Sophia children

Use VAT surplus for tax reform

The Private Sector Commis-sion (PSC) has expressed satisfaction with the 5.8% growth rate in the first half of this year and has urged the government to use the surplus VAT revenue collected to reform the rest of the tax system and give consideration to the lowering of income and corporate taxes in particular.
