Tighten your seat belts and pray for peace

Dear Editor,

Recently Dr Jagan was posthumously awarded an honour for restoring democracy, this is a mockery. With all due respect to Dr Jagan and his very long struggles for the poor, let us not be hoodwinked by the current administration. GUARD, PCD and the Stabroek News did much more for restoring democracy. The late Mr Hoyte must be mentioned too for facilitating the way for the restoration of democracy.

In a previous letter I mentioned about the PPP barking behind fences. Dr Jagan was a down to earth human being who wanted the best for the poor, however, along the way in his political career he stumbled several times. He wanted communism to succeed and this alienated the business class, he also never encouraged scholarship in the PPP, his key colleagues had basic education and he was afraid of anyone who was an independent thinker and financially independent, the latter was a threat.

The Jagdeo administration has performed very poorly and only those who get favours from this administration will say they have done well. Law and order has gone to the dogs, the PPP supporters face brutal criminal attacks on a daily basis; in many instances they lose their lives. Scandalous issues are treated with scant regard and the woes of the poor continue.

Money launderers, drug dealers and other questionable characters are free to pursue their respective “careers”. Guyana is in for another year of woes.

Under these conditions it is very hard to wish my friends a Merry Xmas, I can only say tighten your belts and pray for peace.

Yours faithfully,

Vijay Singh
