Exciting matches forecast as Inter Ward/Street soccer resumes

Following the successful conclusion of the annual Mayor’s Cup football tournament organized by Lennox Arthur, the action swings to another Arthur organized competition today.

The Inter-Ward/Village seven-a-side football tournament sponsored by Banks DIH, Beepat & Sons and AH Sports, staged in recognition of Mayor Hamilton Green’s 73rd birth anniversary,  will continue today at the Banks DIH Thirst Park Ground from 6pm.
With the 16 remaining teams vying for the first prize of G $150, 000 and with additional incentives of 10 pairs of football shoes sponsored by Banks DIH and AH Sports respectively, in addition to the runner-up prize of $50,000 sponsored by Beepat & Sons makes the remaining matches crucial indeed.

Arthur told Stabroek Sport yesterday that some eight matches which he promised would be “action packed affairs,” are scheduled to be contested this evening.

In the curtain raiser Laing Avenue will square off against Uitulugt while half-an-hour later, Sophia will take on Mahaica.
Other matches scheduled this evening will see Albouystown battling against Plaisance and West Ruimveldt against Goed Fortuin.
The remaining matches are Tiger Bay against Buxton; North East La Penitence, led by Vibert Weekes against Ann’s Grove; Timehri, spearheaded by Royston Burgess against Meten-Meer-Zorg and Mocha against Pouderoyen.

The eight victors will move on to the quarter-finals scheduled for Monday night from 6pm.
