Four men in a car on Sunday evening opened fire on another car in which a West Coast Demerara businessman was travelling along the Fort Wellington Public Road with three others and both vehicles subsequently ended up in a trench.

A passenger in the businessman’s vehicle received injuries and was admitted to hospital. Police in a press release yesterday said the incident occurred around 23:00 hrs. The statement said Richard Williams of Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara and three others were returning from Berbice when, at Fort Wellington Public Road, they observed a burgundy Marino car parked and four men attempting to stop them.
Williams continued driving but when he reached in the vicinity of Foulis, West Coast Berbice, shots were fired at his vehicle, from the burgundy car which was following them.
Police said that when Williams’s vehicle reached Airy Hall, Mahaicony it came under fire again and the gunmen attempted to run the vehicle off the road resulting in both vehicles ending up in the trench.

Nardin Deen, 28, who was in  Williams’s vehicle received injuries and was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Williams managed to hold on to one of the four men, while the others escaped and subsequent investigations revealed that the Marino car had been stolen earlier when it was parked at Prince William Street, Plaisance, police said
The suspect is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
