At the simple yet moving presentation Perreira remarked that it may only be a small gift but it is of great significance.

“These balls are being donated as a token of support for the good work that the union (GRFU) has done; it is good to see that the male and female teams have been performing at a high standard in the regional level,” said Perreira.

He also expressed confidence that the balls would be put to good use in not only developing rugby in Guyana but also in attracting  more players to the sport.

Perreira also floated the idea of Guyana training an under-18 rugby squad to challenge an English under-18 rugby schoolboy team in October 2009.

Accepting  the gift on behalf of the GRFU, Robin Peters thanked Perreria and his organization for their continued support in sports and especially the sport of rugby in Guyana.

Also present at the presentation were the senior male national coach Sherlock Solomon, senior female national coach Alton Agard, GRFU Secretary Curtis Jacobs and national senior male player Ryan George.

Training for the senior male and female rugby squads who are preparing for the NAWIRA Rugby World Cup Sevens 2009 Qualifying Tournament began on Monday. The tourney is to take place in The Bahamas on October 25 and 26.
