Soggy ground prevents any play

A soggy Demerara Cricket Club (DCC)  Queenstown ground, caused by heavy overnight rains, prevented any play in one of the penultimate round matches between leaders Georgetown and East Bank in the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB)/ Gizmos and Gadgets/ GT&T sponsored Inter-Association under-17 50 overs competition yesterday.

When the umpires made their final inspection at 1315hrs, the western part of the field was still in a deplorable state and not fit for play and when the clock showed 1410hrs, which was the latest play could have started on the day, there were no signs of improvement forcing the umpires to call off play.

Both teams should not feel rejected, as they will be clashing in the finals today at the Enmore Community Centre ground from 0930hrs weather permitting and Georgetown should start as firm favorites having won their first two matches comfortably. George-town will be led by their captain and wicket keeper batsman Dexter Solomon and he will be receiving valuable support from Quincy Ovid, Dellon Fernandes, Dayanand Roopnarine and left arm fast bowler Andre Stoll who has displayed his batting abilities in the first game against East Coast.

Their bowling rest on the shoulders of fast bowler Seon Daniels who has been tearing apart the opposition top order batting for his team and with strong support from Stoll and vice captain Carlos La Rose along with the spinners in Guyana and West Indies under-15 leg spinner Amir Khan who in tandem with off spinner Ricardo Devers has proven to be tough customers, should be able to restrain the East Bank batting lineup.

East Bank will be led by former national under-15 batsman Shameer Fazal and Kevin Singh whilst Leroy Edwards who will be performing the duties of wicketkeeper, has proven to be a worthy customer with the bat.

Jagdesh Bishun, the younger brother of national under-19 off spinner Totaram Bishun, is expected to lead the bowling and will receive ably support from spinner Mark Anthony and fast bowler Jason Henry.

But such a match can only take place without the intervention of the weather that has been plaguing the country for the past couple of nights.
