Minibus driver held after caught in hotel room with schoolgirl

A minibus driver is in police custody after he was caught with a 15-year-old Berbice schoolgirl in a Rosignol hotel room on Friday.

A police source told this newspaper yesterday that the student who attends a secondary school on the West Coast Berbice underwent a medical examination, which revealed no obvious sexual activity, but investigations are still continuing.
According to the officer, the man is in police custody at the Fort Wellington Police Station.

Stabroek News was told that some time during Friday morning a report was made to the Region Five School’s Welfare Department that a student was seen going into a hotel with a minibus driver.

A source told this newspaper that persons were mistaken about the school the child attended and the headmistress along with two teachers from a school in the area went to the location with the police.

According to reports, the door to a room was kicked in and the girl who was discovered to be from another school was found with the man.

This newspaper understands that this sort of behaviour is not a norm in Berbice but during the last week of school, young girls could be seen at beer gardens and other liming spots with men.
