Tyson an ardent fan of boxing for the past 15-20 years said that she has always wanted to be a participant in the sport instead of a spectator but never really found the courage to do so, until she was inspired by the words of US President Barack Obama, “yes we can”!

According to Tyson, who seems very ferocious just like her namesake, former world heavyweight champion “Iron” Mike Tyson, on the day of the President’s inauguration, it was then she felt a calling to get over her fears and enter the ring.

“I have always loved boxing but never really found the courage to enter the ring until I heard the speech given by President Obama on his inauguration. I felt deeply touched by his words and I am using that as an inspiration” said Tyson in an exclusive interview with Stabroek Sport yesterday.

She went on to state that she was also encouraged by the fact that in Guyana, not many females box and the few that are around are no match for her.

The 41-year-old mother of two further mentioned that even though she does not know much of her opponent one thing they will have in common is that they both will be fighting for the first time.

“Both of us will be entering the ring so you can call us the green dunks in the sport so I think it will be a good fight but I will win” said Tyson.

But one thing is for certain, Tyson seems to be expecting a lot of public support since she said that she’s well-known.

“I expect to have plenty of support, I’m a well-known person and I’ve been around boxing for a long time, so I’m sure people will come out to support me.

Also I know that a lot of calls will be coming from the stands to encourage me but I would not let that get me down” declared Tyson who went on to state that that kind of support will mean well for her in the ring.

Born and bred in Agricola, East Bank Demerara, Tyson said that in life, she has fought many battles both mentally and spiritually, leaving her to only overcome her biggest obstacle and do so physically.
