England delay naming Test squad for Windies clash

LONDON, England, CMC – West Indies will have to wait a while longer to find out the exact nature of their opposition for the upcoming two-Test series after England opted to delay naming the squad for the first Test at Lords.

The squad for the May 6-10 Test had been scheduled to be released today but England’s chief selector Geoff Miller said the selectors needed more time to assess players.

“The selectors have met but have decided that we need more time to assess players who are returning after injury,” Miller said.

“We also felt that by delaying the selection for the first Test match it allowed us the opportunity to see another round of LV County Championship matches before deciding on the squad.”

Selectors will now use April 29 to announce the Test and One-Day International squads to face the West Indies, along with the World Twenty20 squad.

Today, selectors will announce the England Lions, “A” team squad that will tackle West Indies in a three-day tour match at Derby starting April 30.

The second Test is scheduled to run from May 14-18 at Chester-le-Street.
